My Kitchen: Before and During

I'm so sorry for the delay! Too busy with life I forgot to post about our kitchen! So here is before. Not the worst kitchen ever but very far from the best. The walls don't look that bad in these photos but trust me they were pretty nasty. We had repainted most of the rest of the house and it really was us so all that was left was the kitchen.

We decided to do it on the cheap because I was in school and we won't be in this house for forever. We ended up going with new floors which we hired out, did the paint and back splash ourselves and custom ordered the counter tops which Marshall installed (he also did the sink and faucet! What a man!). I am so totally thrilled with how it all came together but for now here's some progress to tease you with.

After hours of shopping the final picks!

This paint color is a huge improvement but it's very very blue. It may not look that blue in these photos but trust me it was like whale blue. I was so frustrated but I knew I had to go out and get another color. I had already finished all the painting, I was done, but I knew I wouldn't be happy. That's the first and last time I do that! So not fun having to paint twice!  (Also it wouldn't have matched with the other changes so it was a must)

My man, hard at work. You can't tell totally in these pictures but the counter tops are like a stained cement. I'm in love with them!

Stay toned, I'll be posting the finished kitchen soon!

Mask Wall

I've gotten a couple of masks over the last year or so on some travels and I've decided I'm going to put up a mask wall as soon as I have enough. In the mean time I'll just dream about how I want it to look!

Truth - You need to know

When we deny the magnitude of our hurt or anger, we decrease our capacity to heal. Truth first, then reconciliation.

Typography

I saw this video a while back and I found it really interesting. I never really thought that deep into typography until I saw this video, so I thought I'd share it with you. I like the perspective they take.

Making your own lotion

Ok, first things for I have to say I haven't try this but I really want to! I think the biggest part is the look of it...it looks very messy, and detailed and that sort of puts me off of it, but I think I just need to put aside some time and give it a go!

Here is a list of what you need:

  • Blender
  • Spatula
  • Thermometer (meat)
  • Double boiler or pot with a measuring pyrex or bowl suspended in the water
  • Clean jars
  • Coconut oil (can also use jojoba or sweet almond)
  • Olive oil
  • Beeswax (100% pure)
  • Distilled or purified water
  • Borax
  • Essential oils
  • Optional aloe vera gel and vitamin E

All the other details for this great recipe are at An Austin Homestead. If you're not interested in this project you should still check out the blog! It's got lots of goodies I think you'd enjoy!

Grain Silow Houses

On our way back from the cabin with some friends we drove by a silow house. There was a little discution if it was really a house or not and then I got an article from my friend Angel (AKA the driver on our way back)  and sure enough, it was (for some reason Wpg Free Press took it off the website, so I can't share the link with you). I thought it was just such a cool idea and so I thought I'd do a little post about these houses. I just think it's such a great idea!

Planting on a plate wall

A little something different for a plate wall right? I think this is just such a wonderful idea.
