Product Review: Kiss My Face, Moisturizing Fragrance Free Liquid Soap

First of all I really like this brand but I have to say that I 100% don’t find this soap moisturizing. I didn’t really get it for that in the first place but if it says it’s moisturizing it should be right? The soap is really nice regardless and the fragrance free is really nice for someone like me that has issues with scents. And it truly is scent free unlike some that say they are but then just have a weird ugly smell.

I would recommend this soap if you’re looking for a nice smooth soap but want something natural. It also comes in a few other scents so you could always give those a go too!

Product Review: Lush White Bar Deodorant

In search for something natural this was stop number two. I tried the darker bar but it started giving me rashes and burning my arm pits after about 4 months of use.

I figured I would try another Lush product as I really did like the other deodorant (until the rashes).

It has a cleaner fresher smell, more like baby powder but goes on about the same. It’s sometimes a little challenging if the bar has gotten too dry and you have to wet it. It’s a lot different than using a normal smooth deodorant in an applicator.

I think at the time it was about $8 for the bar which I thought was a lot but it lasted me 6 months so that’s pretty good. I kept using it and I found it did a pretty good job. There were days that I would have to reapply but generally I was good to go all day.

At about the 6 month mark I started to have the same problems as I had had with the brown bar; rashes and burning. I liked this product but am a little concerned with what ingredients that are in it. They claim to be a lot more natural but I would highly suggest looking into their ingredients before committing to buying any of their products. There are lot more products out there, and for a lot less, that are organic (and certified) and you can recognize all of the ingredients which should really be appreciated.

I wouldn’t recommend this product mainly out of principle because I feel like Lush doesn’t represent themselves correctly, trying to come off as natural when they are not.

Product Review: Camino Organic Chocolate

I am a huge fan of chocolate and I am a huge fan of this chocolate. It’s processes differently and of course doesn’t have any of those normal fillers that non-organic chocolates do so the taste is so much purer and well better!

You pay for the quality but it tastes so good that you can just sit there and enjoy one piece for a while. It comes in I think 8-10 different combination and flavors so there’s really something for everyone!

I highly recommend giving this chocolate a try!

Product Review: Hydrate by Giovanni

I had never heard of this brand before but from the start I loved it! I tried the scrub and a couple of other lotions in store and then bought this one. It’s got this amazing grapefruit scent, but not too overpowering, which is often a problem for me (I am prone to migrants and any scent can set it off but this one doesn’t. It’s really a trial and error with what will and will not be a trigger). It’s very smooth and absorbent and I find that it really works on the skin and doesn’t just sit there on top of the skin. The best part of it all is it’s organic. The worst part of it is it’s a bit pricier, but like any good, well working product, that’s actually healthy for you it’s worth paying that extra little bit.

I would highly recommend this and just the other day I saw a whole line of their products in Superstore so check them out there!

Product Review: Lush Brown Bar Deodorant

This deodorant was my first attempt at finding a deodorant that wouldn’t cause me rashes and puffy arm pits. I was a bit resistant to change because I did want to stink, I got super paranoid and I was a bit insure about looking like someone that didn’t take care of themselves. But walking around holding my arms away from my body so they wouldn’t rub because the burning was so painful was a bigger problem.

This deodorant has a very different smell, a lot like patuli which is not for everyone plus it’s brown so that’s a little weird but it goes on pretty smooth, other then, like the white deodorant of theirs, it gets too dry and you need to wet it to get it to apply.

In general I really liked this deodorant. It took a little to get used to the smell. I wasn’t sure I liked it and when you first smelled it it was hard to tell if it was a good smell or not. It doesn’t give off that freshness you’d get from something watermelon or peach scented but to me it’s about my health, not how fruity and fresh I can smell.

I can’t really say I would recommend this product but if you’re having trouble finding something that works for you it’s worth a try. I would still recommend higher something like Tom’s, but that will come in another post!

Product Review: Jason’s Deodorant

In my search for a deodorant that didn’t give me a rash or puffy pits OR clogged me up with all sorts of nasty things that would give me breast cancer Jason’s was stop number 4.

I tried it, was ok with the price, (more ok with when it went on sale) and they had a few really nice scents. I didn’t love that it wasn’t clear but if it was going to do the job I would let that part side.

I tried it for a couple of months, thought I might need time to get used to it but it didn’t give me a lot of odor protection which is sort of the point. I don’t sweat a lot but sweat smells and I would find that by noon there was no fresh scent left.

I wouldn’t recommend this product because it doesn’t work well. Maybe if you don’t stink at all when you sweat it would work.

Product Review: Tom’s Deodorant

I’ve tried a few other deodorants (check out their reviews: Lush, Jason’s, Crystal) and didn’t have a lot of success. I used to use the usual Secret, or other typical woman’s deodorant but after a few weeks I would always get puffy arm pits and a rash. It wasn’t at all comfortable no matter how pretty my pits smelled.

I tried Tom’s and it’s great. They have a lot of different scents but I find the apricot the best and the fresh smell lasts the longest. I find unlink a blocking antiperspirant or a very full of chemical deodorant you do have to reapply if you’re having a really stressful day or you’re really hot from the summer’s heat but that’s because the sweat is actually allowed to come out and I am ok with that!

I find they’re on the pricier side when it comes to natural deodorant but worth it because it works! I highly recommend this product!

Health Tip of the Week: Glutton free Lara Bars

I have a couple of girl friends that are allergic to glutton and I see how hard it is for them at times to find good (and tasty) options so I always try to keep my eyes open for things they might like and I thought this was a great find.

My mom and I were in Costco and it was a sample day (I love those!) and we were trying some glutton free crackers and the sample man told us about these bars. We went searching for them and my mom decided she’d get a box and then if we liked them I’d get one too (they’re $13 for a box of 12 so it would suck if they tasted nasty). We shared the Key Lime bar on the drive home and it was amazing! I’m going to be having the Chocolate Coconut one today and it has only 5 ingredients, all of which I know and recognize (almonds, dates, coconut, coco powder, walnuts)

Product Review: Natures Gate Tooth Paste

I used to use Sensitide but I’m trying to switch to all natural and organic products so I thought it was time to switch my tooth paste. I was a little resistant at first because I really liked my tooth paste and I was worried that with something natural I wouldn’t get the same sensitivity protection. Then I started to look into florid a bit more and I really really wanted to get away from a tooth paste with any sort or amount of florid (check out my post on it, it’s pretty nasty stuff!). So I went to my local Superstore which had a great organic/natural section and I picked out this tooth paste.

I have to stay first of all the taste took a little getting used to but I noticed within a day my mouth felt better and my tongue was pinker and cleaner (it seemed like it didn’t matter how much I scrubbed I’d always have white residue on my tongue, now I have none of that at all!)

It doesn’t leave you with that intense “fresh feeling” like some of those other tooth pastes out there but I feel healthy using it and my body is sure a lot happier not to have all that florid around! I would for sure recommend this product!

The best pancakes I've ever had, and my attempt at syrup

Marshall and I bought this pancake mix a while ago and we finally tried to today. Marshall just got his wisdom teeth out so I've been trying to find food that are easy to eat and I thought pancakes would be a good treat.

I think pancakes are super unhealthy so these were for sure a good alternative. I almost felt healthy eating them! And you don't even notice the change in taste other then the lack of that doughy aftertaste you get from really sticky white flour foods.

I would for sure recommend this product! It's worth the money and I would definitely buy it again!

When I was in the middle of making the pancakes I realized that I had forgiven the syrup at my mother-in-laws place. What to do? I decided I'd give it a go making my own! Why not right? It couldn't be that hard right? It was super easy!

Syrup Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple flavored extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, combine the white sugar, brown sugar and water. Bring to a boil, and cook for about 3 minutes. Stir in the maple extract and vanilla, and remove form the heat. Let cool, and serve at room temperature. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Be aware that it may crystallize a little if the container is not completely airtight.
Source

And they turned out really really well too! I didn't have the maple extract but the syrup still tasted really good and I love that I know exactly what's in it too. Not at all healthy but at least it's lacking all those added in chemicals you'd see in the one you buy at the store!

I've shared this recipe at:

A Little Bedbug View & Info

This stuff looks pretty great and it sounds (from all my calling around) you can get it at a lot of garden center, just make sure you get the food grade one!

I don't know anything about the products in this video, so I have no suggestions there, but I thought it was a good one because it really shows where to check in a quick and easy way- via picture, and you'd be surprised where they all hide! I had some in my mirror frame!

This one just totally grosses me out! I'm not too sure why this guy keeps the bedbugs for a living but it's nice to get a better view of what they looks like, there different stages of life and different ways your skin can look.

Again not promoting the specific product, in a lot of ways you could make your own version but it's good to see what's out there and what companies sell to help you find these buggers.

Ok, I'm pretty sure they made this one just to scare you, but I think it has some helpful information so I figured I'd include it anyways.

If you're worried about traveling, which I sort of am now this one has some good tips. I'd also suggest when you get home from a trip washing everything in your bag (clothes, towels, swim suits) and spraying down your cosmetic bottles and suit cases with some sort of disinfectant.

I just thought I would through this one in there because people often think that you'll have big red spots but really you can just have raised bumps, which is what I have a lot of (similar to this lady) and some red spots. AND if you didn't know some people don't react at all. We thought we mustn't have them because my husband didn't have a bite on him. Turns out he likely is getting bitten but his body just doesn't react to it.

Ha ha ha OK, not that helpful BUT my dog kept going under our bed and I couldn't figure out why....Now I see, he knew they were there, he was trying to get them!! He always chases bugs and is a really good communicator when he wants something or wants to show us something, it's just a matter of paying enough attention to him and listening in the right ways.

Product Review: Ezekiel Bread

I remember years ago only being able to find this in the states but the other day I found it in Superstore. I’m slowly growing my list of organic product that I like (and that I can afford) and Ezekiel bread is on there. The slices are thinner but the bread is rich and you can just feel the health in it.

It around $5 a loaf and you’ll find it in the freezer section, but it’s so worth the money! We all know we don’t need more bad carbs and yeast in our systems and this is for sure a great option for a healthy grain product (you know, get our 4 servings a day!)

Product Review: Desert Essence Organics

I’ve been trying to switch to organic product. I’ve had a lot of health problem lately and the more I look into the more it comes down to what I’m taking in through my skin, through the products I use (cosmetically and cleaning) and what I eat.

I bought their lotion first and love it. It comes in a few scents as well as fragrance free which I really appreciate because a lot of scents trigger headaches for me.

I also got their Lemon shampoo. I find that I have to wash my hair twice through to get it clean but it’s still a really great product and I feel better (even if it’s just in my head) using it.

You can get this product at a lot of different health food stores as well as Wal-Mart and Superstore.

Great Food Find: Seneca Apple Chips

4th Annual Movie Marathon

My husband and I have a movie marathon every year for Christmas. It’s a tradition we started when we started dating and we’ve done it now for four years.

Throughout the year we write down movies when they come up that we want to see, or old movies that we want to see again. We pick 5-6 movies and spend a whole day watching. This year we upped the excitement a bit and opened a gift each and got a little more serious and had appetizers and Sucre A Crème & Skor Fruit Dip with apples (I’ll be posting that recipe soon!).

So I figured I would share our picks, and some great options for holidays appetizers

We watched this one last year too, and Marshall really liked it. I liked it but really didn’t feel like watching it again so Marshall (because he usually wakes up earlier then me either when we sleep in) watched it first thing without me, which I was totally ok with.

Marshall loves animated movies and cars, so there really was no fighting this one. www.pixar.com/featurefilms/cars

We saw the Broadway show of this and loved it! www.lesmis.com Marshall hasn’t even seen the movie so it was a “must” for the list this year, and I had forgotten how good it is!!

I was told this movie was super funny, but honesty, I didn’t find it that funny. I don’t see kids beating up adults and vice versa really funny (I know, I’m taking a joke too seriously, but I really don’t like the message of it you know?) www.fourchristmasesmovie.com

Can’t say I loved this movie, it moved sort of slow to me and it was gory in a mean sort of way, but I guess that was the point?

I didn’t realize that this movie was more like a documentary but I still really liked it and I would highly recommend the sound track! www.oncesoundtrack.com

And of course the appetizers!! We got then all from Superstore. Normally I’m not one for frozen appetizers, I find they can be a little sketchy, but these were really good! www.pc.ca

Hawaii and Cookies

When I was in Hawaii almost a year ago there was a cookie shop me and my friend Leanne always went into...why?.....because they had free cookie samples!! Travelers on a budget...well you can imagine the excitement when we found the place! They not only had free samples they also had a lot of staff! (they didn’t really notice us in there all the time...) And to make things even better the cookies were amazing!! They have so many different types and all are mouth wateringly good!!

And even better yet (well not as good as going back to Hawaii!) I just discovered there website and free shipping!! (I was getting a little worried cause I’m on my last cookie...they last really well in the fridge!)
